We need YOUR HELP to spread the word!

Are you a WorkBC Employment Counsellor, Public Post-Secondary Career Advisor, Private Career College Career Advisor, or Employment Service Provider?  Help us inform older workers and employers about the Experience Matters! Program.

Do you work with job seekers 55+ who are looking for full-time employment?

The Program helps eligible job seekers 55+ get hired, gain skills and experience, and receive third-party training!

What is the Experience Matters! Program?

The Experience Matters! Program offers eligible employers in BC a negotiated Wage Subsidy up to $2800 as an incentive to hire eligible job seekers age 55 and older.

What makes a job seeker age 55+ eligible?

  • Age 55 or older
  • Unemployed or Precariously employed – working unstable or irregular hours (such as casual labour or on-call work), working for unreliable wages (such as piece-work or commission) and/or working for earnings that cannot support an individual or their family
  • Seeking long-term employment
  • Not a full-time student (i.e. enrolled in high school or post-secondary training)
  • Resident of BC (living in BC as a Canadian, a permanent resident or a protected person) and legally entitled to work in Canada (not utilizing any type of Visa (i.e work or student)
  • Not actively participating in another provincially or federally funded labour market program (excluding WorkBC)

How can job seekers age 55+ let employers know? Include our Self Marketing Letter.

Any job seeker age 55+ who is looking for full-time employment can complete our online Job Seeker 55+Eligibility Checklist.

If they answer YES to all 5 questions, they will receive a ‘Worker 55+ Self Marketing Letter’. This letter informs employers that the applicant may be eligible for the Program and how to apply for the negotiated Wage Subsidy hiring incentive to hire that applicant. The letter can be attached to a resume when applying for positions.
